Procedure Overview
A dental implant is a biocompatible titanium post surgically anchored into the jawbone to replicate a natural tooth root. Once integrated with the bone (osseointegration), it provides a permanent, rock-solid foundation for a custom ceramic crown, bridge, or fixed denture.
Unlike conventional bridges, dental implants do not require grinding down healthy adjacent teeth. Unlike removable dentures, implants never slip, click, or cause speech impairment, and they prevent progressive jawbone deterioration.
At Malahide Dental Clinic, our implant team uses on-site 3D Cone Beam CT (CBCT) scanning for guided precision implant placement.
What to Expect During Your Treatment
3D CBCT Scan & Consultation
Comprehensive clinical exam with digital 3D jawbone tomography to map exact implant angles and nerve pathways.
Precision Implant Placement
Gentle surgical placement under local anaesthesia or conscious sedation. The titanium fixture is secured in the bone.
Healing & Osseointegration
Over 8–12 weeks, the bone naturally bonds with the implant surface for unmatched stability.
Custom Crown Restoration
A bespoke, custom-shaded porcelain or zirconia crown is securely fitted, completing your restored smile.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the dental implant procedure painful?
Not at all. The procedure is performed under profound local anaesthesia. Most patients report feeling only mild pressure. Post-treatment discomfort is usually mild and easily managed with over-the-counter pain relief for 1-2 days.
How long do dental implants last?
With routine oral hygiene, flossing, and biannual dental cleanings, dental implants can last 25+ years to a lifetime.
Can I get an implant if I have bone loss?
Yes. In cases of reduced bone height, we can perform bone grafting or sinus lifting prior to or during implant placement.
